Cage Titans Chris O’Brien tells Al Kinani: “Memorial Hall is and will always be my house. Come ready for a war”

Cage Titans returns in two weeks and the promotion will host Combat Night II. This event will have MMA and Muay Thai bouts at the Plymouth Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 7th.

FightBook MMA sat down with one of the fighters competing at Cage Titans: Combat Night II former Cage Titans Amateur Champion Christopher Michael O’Brien (4-1). He’s fighting out of Massachusetts training at South Shore Sportfighting and will be taking on Mohammad Al Kinani (6-1). O’Brien is ranked 7th of 93 active New England Amateur Lightweights. O’Brien is looking to climb right back into title contention. Check out the conversation he had with FightBook MMA below.

Chris thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to us. Can you tell the fans that don’t already know you who you are?

My names Chris O’Brien (aka The Bearded Dragon) I’m 4-1 fighting out of South Shore Sportfighting in my hometown of Rockland, MA.

Chris you were the former Cage Titans Amateur Champ, how many more fights do you think you will have to get that strap back around your waist?

My next fight is against Mohammad Al Kinani. He’s 6-1 and currently ranked #2 in New England at 155. I believe a win over him puts me right back into a Championship fight to get my belt back.

You’re coming into this fight with a loss, what changes have you made from your last bout?

I took a year off to focus on my strength and wrestling, but I’ve also made a lot of adjustments to my mental preparations, as well as my confidence in my striking game. I’m looking forward to putting all the pieces together for this fight.

What do you know about your opponent Kinani?

I know he’s a good striker who loves to throw down. I’m happy to meet him in the center and give the fans what they want. Let’s get it.

What’s the most likely outcome for your fight?

Anything can happen when that cage door locks, but I see the both of us throwing hands until he falls. Time to remind everyone who they’re dealing with.

How’s it going to feel to get back in the win column?

Words can’t describe it. I’ve been through a lot in the past year, so this next fight means much more to me than just another competition. Just stepping in the cage again is a big win for me in itself.

Anything you would like to tell your opponent?

Much respect, but Memorial Hall is and will always be my house. Come ready for a war.

Chris your ranked 7th in the New England Amateur Lightweights per Tapology. What has been the key to your success?

Hard work and a great team behind me. That’s all it is.

Where would you like to be as a fighter in the next year?

With my belt back around my waist.

How do you feel of your accomplishments so far?

I’ve accomplished a lot more in this sport than I ever thought I would. I started as just wanting to fight once and now I have the fastest KO in Cage Titans history, several fight awards and a lightweight title to my name.

Now, it’s time to get back in the win column and add another title to my resume.

Chris I want to thank you again for your time. Any shout outs and last words you would like to say the floor is yours.

First I want to thank you for taking the time for the interview!

I want to say thank you to my team at South Shore Sportfighting, my sponsors Arcadian Grooming, Rugged RX Fitness, Bulldog Auto Detailing, Cofotography, Mass Ink Tattoo, and Team Carrier, all my friends/family that come out and show love and , last but certainly not least, my girlfriend Mary for all her love and support.

If it wasn’t for all of them, I would be nothing in this sport. Love all you guys. Like always, this fight is for Team O’Brien 🍀

My fight is Saturday, September 7th at Plymouth Memorial Hall. If anyone needs tickets, hit me up! See you there!
