Top prospect Erion Zekthi’s most recent fight with Shamrock FC was canceled due to the pandemic. He recently spoke with FightBook MMA about how he’s holding up in isolation and what’s next.
How are you holding up in isolation? How has your day-to-day life been affected?
“My day-to-day life hasn’t changed much. Instead of going into the office, I work from home like many others. The only thing that really affected me truly was the gyms closing down, and the inability to enjoy myself outside with friends. As far as life and finances go, I’m well, but mentally it’s taxing.”
On a scale of 1 to 10, how disappointed where you when your last fight was canceled?
“Eleven. My last fight falling through disappointed me immensely, especially with it happening just two days from showtime. It’s hard to put into words the slight depression you feel, putting all that effort into a camp only to have it spit on by this pandemic.”
How would that fight have played out? Is it going to be rescheduled?
“We’re going to fight; it’ll get rescheduled. He would’ve been KO’d stiff like a board, and still will.”
What would you like to accomplish in 2020?
“Get this win and fight a couple more times to make up for lost time. Honestly, I feel so behind because of all this shit.”
What do you have to say to all the people out there in isolation?
“Find a video game and drown your sorrows in it (laughs). I’m not good with words of encouragement.”
