Cheyenne, Wyoming: Sparta Sports & Entertainment has an amazing card lined up for fans as they host Sparta Wyoming 5. This event will be taking place on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at The Outlaw Saloon in Cheyenne, Wyoming with Ring Announcer Kody Mommaerts.
Chris Cocores (7-4) fighting out of South Lake Tahoe, California, will be taking on Joseph “Lionheart” Garcia (3-2) fighting out of Denver, Colorado.
Chris will be making his return to the cage after 3 years of recovering and rehabilitating from a horrific, fatal car crash that claimed his girlfriend and dog. This accident happened back in December 2017 and put a holt on his physical strength. He spent three weeks at Lorna Linda University Medical Center recovering.
His final surgery was at the Barton Memorial Hospital. He had a percutaneous fusion which is a surgical procedure used to correct problems with the small bones in the spine (vertebrae). After his recovery, in January, Cocores met with his neurosurgeon and cleared him to fight again.
Chris took time out of his busy schedule to sit down and talk to Roberto Villa CEO of FightBook MMA. You can check out the interview below.
Roberto: Chris thank you for the opportunity to talk to you. First, my condolences go to you, her family, and yours. When I was approached to talk to you I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Chris, can you please tell the fight fans a bit about yourself.
Chris: I’m 29 years old and have been fighting for 8 years and faced just about every setback possible. I’m absolutely obsessed with MMA and have devoted my life to it especially after it saved it in 2017.
Roberto: What made you decide to compete in MMA?
Chris: I was always a fighter. But I began competing in 2012 after to honor my mother after she lost her fight to cancer.
Roberto: Sorry to hear this about your mom. This is your first fight back after the Dr. gave you the green light to compete again. What crossed your mind when you heard the news?
Chris: A flood of emotions I couldn’t even begin to explain. The news we expected but it was an unreal experience to hear it from the professionals.
Roberto: After all that you went through with the loss of your girlfriend and dog and all the hard work you put into physical therapy, how does it feel coming back to fight at Sparta Wyoming 5?
Chris: Hard work is God’s work and there was no doubt when I set out to accomplish my goals what would happen. Sparta has given us a shot to live that moment yet again so I’ll be ready.
Roberto: How has training been during this pandemic?
Chris: Training has been the exact same as it always has been during the pandemic, MMA training is never a walk in the park it’s stomp through the woods so nothing has changed except our conditions. Still moved forward.
Roberto: You’re taking on Joseph Garcia at Sparta Wyoming 5, do you know much about him?
Chris: We know enough. And are ready for the unknown?
Roberto: Without giving away too much, what should the fans expect during this fight?
Chris: An example, that anything is possible.
Roberto: Anything you want to tell Joseph before you meet him inside the Sparta cage?
Chris: Thanks for the fight Fuel and reward.
Roberto: Alright Chris, some rapid questions I like to ask. Favorite food?
Chris: The kind you eat to win, and the kind you win to eat.
Roberto: Favorite music?
Chris: I’m a sucker for all kinds of music but Punk Rock has always had my heart.
Roberto: Your hobby, other than training (laughs).
Chris: Thinking about training. And video games (laughs).
Roberto: Where do you see yourself 2 years from now in this crazy sport of MMA?
Chris: In the UFC.
Roberto: I better get that interview when you sign the dotted lines. How do you feel about what you’ve accomplished so far?
Chris: Content, but ready for the next challenge.
Roberto: Chris, thank you for the opportunity to be able to talk to you. Any shoutouts to sponsors or anyone the floor is yours.
Chris: Tahoe Green, Village Board Shop, Lake Monster Tattoo, WhyKind, Megan Cary Artistry, Big Blue Spa, Wing & Blade, Tahoe Heartbeat, Doggpound Customs, and God for giving me a second chance.
