Combate Américas: “Alday vs Lopez” official weigh-in results

Fighters faced the scale for Combate Américas: “Alday vs Lopez”, a three-fight main card headlined by the much-anticipated Combate America’s bantamweight (135 lbs) world championship battle.

Jose Alday’s (11-3-1) original world championship opponent, Levy Marroquin (11-2) of Monterrey, Mexico, was forced to withdraw from the commitment due to symptoms of influenza detected by the Arizona Boxing Commission physician, Dr. Ken Ota.

Combate America’s five-fight veteran Gustavo Lopez (8-3) from Wapato, Washington, now replaces Levy Marroquin and will now for the world bantamweight championship against Jose Alday.

Lopez fought for the 135 belt last October 14th 2016 against John “Sexy Mexi” Castaneda (16-4). Castaneda scored a fourth-round technical knockout against Gustavo Lopez in the Combate Americas “Empire Rising”.

Because Castaneda missed weight for the match, he was ineligible to claim the inaugural Combate Americas bantamweight title.

This time, Lopez hit 136lbs in the scale, meaning that he will be not eligible to claim the belt if he wins the fight. Additionally, Lopez will give 20% of his fighting purse to Jose Alday.

In the co-main event; unbeaten, 29-year-old Karen Cedillo (1-0) of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico will face Phoenix, Arizona’s explosive Tracy Cortez (3-1), who will look to extend a three-fight winning streak in what will mark her promotional debut with Combate Americas and first-ever live television appearance.

The premier Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) franchise’s first world championship event in Phoenix on Friday, Sept. 14, will be live on both Univision (12 a.m. ET/PT) and Univision Deportes Network (UDN) (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT).

The complete, nine-bout fight card airs in its entirety on DAZN, the live and on-demand sports streaming platform, in English in the U.S. and Canada, beginning with the first preliminary card bout, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
