Conor McGregor announces MMA retirement, Again:

(Stephen R. Sylvanie for USA TODAY Sports) Is there any truth to this retirement?

Take the latest news surroundingĀ former UFC champion Conor McGregor with a grain of salt. Taking to Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the DublinerĀ announced his retirement for the second time in three years.Ā

@TheNotoriousMMA: “Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as ‘Mixed Martial Art’ today. I wish all my old colleaguesĀ well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Colades on me fellas!”

The latest announcement from ‘The Notorious’ one comes as some what of a surprise, particularly as recent rumblings suggested that we would see an Octagon return as soon as UFC 239 in July against any number of opponents. Just last Saturday night, it seemed McGregor was interested in a possible meeting with UFC Fight Night Nashville big winner Anthony Pettis, while a trilogy meeting with Nate Diaz is the most likely returning party for the former two weight world champion.Ā

Speaking with ESPN correspondent Brett Okamoto, UFC head honcho Dana White gave his thoughts on another potential McGregor farewell;Ā “He has the money to retire and his whiskey is KILLIN it. It totally makes sense. If I was him I would retire too. He’s retiring from fighting. Not from working. The Whiskey will keep him busy and I’m sure he has other things he’s working on. He has been so fun to watch!!! He has accomplishedĀ incredible things in this sport. I am so happy for him and I look forward to seeing him being as successful outside of the Octagon as he was in it.

Before his scheduled rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 200, McGregor also announced a hasty retirement on Twitter in August 2016.
