Fighters from across Europe met in London this afternoon to weigh in for Cage Warriors 95, an event which will see hometown favourite Mehrdad Janzemini take on Italy’s Stefano Paternò for the vacant welterweight title at the Indigo at the O2 arena.
Janzemini, who weighed in at 169.7lbs, is on a five-fight tear and boasts a 100% finish rate across 9 wins. After a knockout win at Super Saturday in March, Janzemini comes up against Stefano Paternò (168.9lbs) tomorrow night in one of the most talked about title fights in European MMA. Paterno enters CW95 off the back of two recent victories over UFC veterans John Maguire and Cody McKenzie, and also has an impressive number of finishes under his belt. Our main event is very unlikely to go the distance!
In the co-main event, two of Europe’s hottest bantamweight prospects make their Cage Warriors debuts in a clash to establish a new London star in the division. After ex-champion recently departed for the UFC, his teammate Mike Ekundayo (135.5lbs) takes on Ed Arthur (134.5lbs) with the winner likely to call for a shot at the vacant belt. After one of the most heated stare downs of the year, these two can’t wait for the cage door to close tomorrow night.
In a hugely exciting clash for another top contender spot, this time in the Welterweight division, the unbeaten Ross Houston (170.8lbs) meets new signing Nathan Jones (169.9lbs). The winner will be watching our main event very closely. Further down the card, London fan favourite Brad Wheeler (169.7lbs) meets Orlando D’Ambrosio (168.8lbs) in another exciting welterweight bout.
Two dangerous lightweights open up our main card, when young Welsh name Mason Jones (155.5lbs) takes on Konmon Deh (154.7lbs) of France. Jones has remained undefeated in 4 fights since his pro debut last year, but the more experienced Deh is no stranger to crushing the surge of rising stars. One man moves up the rankings tomorrow night.
A bantamweight bout between Scott Malone and Cory Tait was removed from the card last night. Elsewhere in the bantamweight division, Kris Edwards elected not to cut weight further after making 139lbs in his first attempt. He will be fined 50% of his purse and his fight with previous title challenger Luca Iovine will go ahead.
CW95 floor AND rear balcony standing tickets have now sold out. Limited seated tickets are still available here, but fans are advised to book early this week to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 5pm.
