Deiveson Figueiredo calls for bantamweight clash with UFC ‘legend’ Dominick Cruz in division debut

Former undisputed UFC flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo has sights fixed on a move to the bantamweight limit of 135lbs in his next Octagon walk. And the Brazilian has claimed he wants to meet with former two-time division best, Dominick Cruz in his division bow.
Figueiredo, a former undisputed flyweight champion under the banner of the promotion, co-headlined UFC 283 back in January in his native Brazil, suffering a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Brandon Moreno in the pair’s tetralogy title unification fight.
The defeat returned Figueiredo back to the losing side following a title unification win over Baja California native, Moreno back in January of last year, nabbing the result in a close decision triumph.
Announcing his intentions to make a bantamweight division move off the back of his Brazil defeat to Moreno, Figueiredo, who has struggled with weight cuts to the flyweight limit since his ascension to the throne,
Previewing his division leap, Figueiredo has offered to share the Octagon with his fellow former titleholder, Cruz in his next outing.
“I’ve talked to my manager after the fight and we came to the conclusion that Dominick Cruz would be a great fight,” Deiveson Figueiredo said on Trocacao Franca. “It would be a great first fight at 135. He’s a former champion. I’m a former champion, so it would be a guy with a name and high level to welcome me at 135. That would be great.”
“Dominick moves a lot and we know we would have to cut his movement,” Deiveson Figueiredo explained. “I would 100 percent explore that and train a lot of wrestling. I’ve been utilizing Jiu-Jitsu a lot, and would train a lot of wrestling too, especially defensive wrestling. Dude is a legend and I know he’s an excellent fighter, he can take people down. I’d block his takedowns and box him hard.”
