Derek Brunson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan rescheduled for UFC Fight Night Vegas on August 1st.

A middleweight matchup between longtime contender, Derek Brunson, and rising division prospect, Edmen ‘The Golden Boy’ Shahbazyan has been rescheduled for UFC Fight Night Vegas on August 1st. – as the promotion attempt to match the two for the third time.

Brunson and Shahbazyan were initially set to meet at UFC 248 in March until the pairing was rebooked for a UFC Fight Night Portland card, which was subsequently shelved amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Riding a two-fight win streak, longtime division contender, Brunson will attempt to make it three wins in as many outings, following his knockout loss to current middleweight titleholder, Israel Adesanya at UFC 230. Streaking prospect, Shahbazyan last competed at UFC 244 in November – scoring a shocking first-round, high-kick knockout over Brad Tavares. News of the matching was first reported by ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.

North Carolina native, Brunson – who as mentioned earlier, has picked up two victories in his last two outings; unanimous decision triumphs against both Ian Heinisch, and Elias Theodorou. The former Strikeforce middleweight contender has scored notable wins over the likes of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, Uriah Hall, Roan Carneiro, Lorenz Larkin, Ed Herman, and Chris Leben. The 36-year-old plys his trade at Renzo Gracie Academy and holds eleven separate knockout wins since his professional debut back in May of 2010.

So far promotional perfect, 22-year-old upstart, Shahbazyan has quickly warranted attention in the UFC’s middleweight pile. The Glendale-based striker trains under Edmond Tarverdyan at Glendale Fight Club and is currently undefeated as a professional with eleven victories. Since his Octagon bow back in November 2018 – the talented knockout artist has taken highlight wins over Darren Stewart, Charles Byrd, Jack Marshman, and the aforementioned Tavares.

The #9 ranked 185-pound contender had featured on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series back in July of 2018. In another first-round finish, Shahbazyan finished Antonio Jones with strikes just forty-seconds into the matching.
