Dustin Poirier responds to Nate Diaz: I’ll slap him up
Despite the recent rumblings surrounding a potential rematch with former two-weight world champion, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in the near future – former interim lightweight best, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier’s attention has been drawn to a certain, Nate Diaz with tension still rife between the two following a failed pairing at UFC 230 in November of 2018.
Both Poirier and the above mentioned, McGregor have agreed to a rematch on social media over the last couple of weeks, six years after their UFC 178 featherweight clash. The striking pair were initially attempting to organize a charity mixed martial arts event on December 12th. in Dublin – with UFC president, Dana White then explaining how the promotion had in fact offered the two a rematch for a January 23rd. event.
Whilst McGregor has spoken of his willingness to clash with Poirier once more before a planned pairing with boxing world champion, Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao – he remains adamant that any sort of rematch should take place in either November or December of this year rather than the originally penned January date.
With a rumoured BMF championship rematch between Poirier’s American Top Team teammate, Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal and the aforenoted, Diaz reportedly put on the back burner in favour of a matchup of Colby Covington and Masvidal – Diaz recently criticised both Poirier and Masvidal for taking fights with “friends“, McGregor and Covington, respectively.

Poirier may be pre-occupied with a potential re-run with Straight Blast Gym mainstay, McGregor – that hasn’t prevented him from clapping back at Diaz. Speaking with ESPN MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani in a recent interview – Poirier claimed he’d “slap him up“.
“Yeah he beat Conor (McGregor), he ain’t beat me,” Poirier said. “Bro, he can get it too, I’ll fight him too – at 170(-pounds). I don’t live in the Diaz world, I live in reality. If he wants to fight let’s go, I’ll slap him up.“
In regards to their above noted, UFC 230 planned pairing – Poirier was forced from the scheduled co-headliner with a hip injury, with Diaz removed from the card altogether.
Since then, Poirier has gone on to score the interim lightweight throne with a second career win over former featherweight best, Max Holloway. Dropping a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification meeting at UFC 242 in September of last year – the Lafayette favourite returned to winning ways with a unanimous decision win over Dan Hooker at UFC Vegas 4 in June.
