Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje II set to headline UFC 291 in BMF championship showdown
A lightweight division clash between former interim division gold holders, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje, is slated to take main event honors from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah for the UFC 291 pay-per-view card on July 29.
Initially sharing the Octagon back in April 2018, Poirier managed to stop Gaethje in front of an enemy crowd in the main event of UFC Fight Night Glendale, lodging a fourth round TKO victory.
And in an official announcement tonight, UFC president, Dana White confirmed how Poirier and Gaethje will face-off once again this summer in a BMF championship fight – following the retirement of the former’s teammate, former belt holder, Jorge Masvidal.Â
Furthermore, in the event’s co-headliner, former light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz welcomes former undisputed middleweight champion, Alex Pereira to the 205lbs limit – following the Brazil’s championship loss to Israel Adesanya back in April of this year.
Amongst other notable additions to the card, a middleweight fight between Paulo Costa, and Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Ikram Aliskerov features on the main card.
Another former interim lightweight champion also features, as Tony Ferguson returns to 155lbs following a brief welterweight excursion, taking on Californian veteran, Bobby Green.
At welterweight, former Ultimate Fighter feature, Michael Chiesa takes on recent winner, Kevin Holland in a slated pay-per-view main card opener.
