Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas will play host to Invicta Fighting Champsionships 39 Friday, February 7th. The main event will feature Jin Yu Frey (8-4) defending her atomweight championship against Ashley “Smashley” Cummins (7-4).
The pair met once before back at Invicta 24 with Frey coming away with a razor thin decision win. Cummins comes into this championship tilt looking for redemption as the loss to Frey is the only loss at atomweight for the St. Louis native.
“Smashley” is now settled in the 619 (San Diego) and training at 10th Plant Jiu Jitsu alongside Bellator flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane. Cummins is on the verge of keeping a promise to herself and that’s being a world champion.
Ashley has reeled off back to back wins over Stephanie Alba and Jessica Delboni respectively to garner a shot at Invicta gold. Before this championship clash “Smashley” was kind enough to sit down with FightBook MMA to discuss the matchup, being a fighter and a police officer, her work with at risk youth, and much more.
