WGP Kickboxing has prepared yet another novelty for fans of Latin America’s largest strikeout event. The organization announces the premiere of the event in Chilean territory, in the capital Santiago, with a card to excite the fans. The WGP 54 will take place on May 24, at Centro Cultural Estação Mapocho and has a main event of those. Cesinha Almeida, cruiserweight champion (up to 85.1kg) puts his belt on the line against host Ivan Galaz, winner of the last Challenger GP. The event also has a Challenger GP super middleweight title and has confirmed weight contenders. Former half-time champion Ravy Brunow and Chilean Victor Valenzuela, one of the most important names in Chile’s kickboxing, are the highlights. The other two members will be announced shortly. Two other duels already confirmed in the main card are two matches Argentina vs Chile. By the light (up to 60kg) the duel between Facu Suarez and Felipe Artillero and the cruisers between Nicolas Ryske and Navarrete Patrício. The broadcast is owned by Channel Combat, Bandsports and Fox Sports.
“It is an immense pride to be able to land in Chile for this debut edition. As we have already said, our goal has always been to expand our events to the South American scene, which has been occupying a growing space among our fans. After two editions in Argentina, getting to Chile certainly is a goal thought, calculated and now realized. I’m sure Cesinha and Galaz will make a great duel and the other matches will raise the audience and the crowd at home, “says Paulinho Zorello, executive director of WGP.
At age 31, champion Cesinha has a long career in professional kickboxing. Paulistano of the capital, the fighter adds 45 duels already made, with the incredible mark of 39 victories, being 28 knockouts. Known for aggressiveness within the ring, Cesinha made his WGP debut in the distant sixth edition in 2012. Since then there have been 17 fights and only four defeats. The fighter was marked by major battles in the WGP with Alex ‘Po Atan’ Pereira having won one opportunity and been defeated in two others. In its last appearance it conquered the title of the cruisers when dominating and to beat the Argentinean Lucas Alsina, in edition 50.
For the Chilean Ivan Galaz, being one of the protagonists of an edition of WGP Kickboxing is not so much novelty. The 33-year-old Glory participant is born and raised in the capital Santiago and has four appearances at the event, with duels against important names such as Felipe Micheletti when he won the heavyweight title and was defeated unanimously, and Alex Pereira, champion of the Glory and former WGP cruiserweight title holder. Galaz still defeated Richard Jacobi in the 40th edition and got the chance to be the challenging category by winning the Challenger GP in the 51st edition by defeating João Pedro Simão and Fabio Alberto. He adds in his career a total of 70 fights, with 61 wins and nine defeats.
The other duel that promises in the main card is a clash between Argentina and Chile. Facu Suarez and host Felipe Artillero face the lightweight division. At 28 years old, Facu has already competed in the belt of the category before former champion Hector Santiago and adds 50% to WGP with three wins and three defeats. In the race are 21 duels, with 13 triumphs. Felipe Artillero, Chilean based in Brazil, in Piracicaba, returned to his country to try to get the fifth WGP victory. In his career he has 14 wins in 21 disputed matches.
The meeting between Nicolas Ryske and Patrício Navarrete also puts one of the biggest names in Argentine kickboxing against an experienced Chilean and motivated for his WGP debut.
The WGP 54 also features a super middleweight Challenger GP to set the new challenger for newly crowned champion Jonas Salsicha. The organization has announced for now the presence of former division champion Ravy Brunow and Chilean Victor Valenzuela, one of the top names in the current and well-known category in his country. Soon the rest of the members will be announced.
