After almost a year-long layoff, former welterweight king Borys Mankowski (19-7-1) will make his much anticipated return to action at KSW 46 when he faces Brazilian Bruce Souto (12-3).
Mankowski captured the KSW welterweight title at KSW 27 with a second round submission win over Aslambek Saidov. ‘The Tasmanian Devil’ would then go onto defend his title three times against UFC veterans John Maguire, Jesse Taylor, and David Zawada, dispatching of the latter two with first round submissions.
After clearing out the division Mankowski then set his sights on the ultimate challenge of facing KSW legend Mamed Khalidov, who was KSW middleweight champ and undefeated in KSW at the time. The pair headlined the historic KSW 39 event in May, 2017 and in front of almost 58,000 people Mankowski gave Khalidov arguably the toughest fight of his career in KSW and pushed him the distance. Khalidov got the judges decision but neither fighter lost in this superfight classic.
Then last December Mankowski came up against Roberto Soldic at KSW 41. After three hard rounds where Mankowski showed serious heart and determination his corner threw in the towel thus giving Soldic the TKO win and the welterweight title. It was a one-sided fight unlike anything Mankowski had faced in the past but he never gave up and despite the ongoing punishment he was receiving he kept working and attempting for submissions. However his corner had seen enough and the fight was over.
Now the 29-year-old will embark on a journey to regain the welterweight crown but first in his way is the in-form Brazilian Bruce Souto, a Jungle Fights and M-1 veteran and very well rounded fighter with wins coming by TKO, submission and decision. The 29-year-old comes into this contest on a six-fight-win-streak which includes a win over UFC vet Wendell Oliviera in his last fight back in March.
KSW 46 will be headlined by the much anticipated rematch between the legend Mamed Khalidov (34-5-2) and KSW light heavyweight champion Tomasz Narkun (15-2). The pair met earlier this year as we saw Narkun come from behind and end Khalidov’s twenty fight KSW unbeaten streak in what is a ‘Fight of the Year’ contender. The co-main will see undefeated lightweight champion Mateusz Gamrot (14-0) goes for a second title as he faces submission ace Kleber Koike Erbst (24-4-1) for the vacant featherweight title.
KSW 46 will be live around the world via online PPV on www.KSWTV.com.
