BILOXI, MS. – The main event of Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA fight card Friday night featuring Brandon “Killer B” Davis against Randy “The Zohan” Costa from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, MS ended in a no contest.

Midway through the first round, Davis caught Costa with a barrage of punches that sent Costa to the mat. While Costa was down, Davis struck Costa with a knee to the head, which caused the referee to stop the action at the 2:47 mark of the first round. It was determined that Davis delivered an inadvertent knee to his downed opponent.

As a result of the no contest, the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA Bantamweight World Championship remains vacant.

“It looked like Costa was about to quit,” said Masvidal. “He dropped down to his knees. The rules are kind of confusing. Davis did land the knee, but it didn’t look like it made that much contact. I thought Costa could have fought through it, and his corner was telling him to get up, but he was just nodding his head like he didn’t want it.

“I think maybe he didn’t like the pain he felt in there, but more than anything I think he was just tired and he got his way out,” concluded Masvidal.

In electric heavyweight co-main event action, Maurice “The Crochet Boss” Greene executed a front choke that forced Chase “The Vanilla Gorilla” Sherman to tap out in the second round.

“I’m here for a good time, not a long time,” declared Greene after the win. “That’s a finish, a great performance! He was 2 – 0 under the (Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA) banner. Junior (Dos Santos), where you at, boy?”

The featured bout of the night showcased an all-Brazilian heavyweight slugfest as Carlos Augusto “Guto” Inocente knocked out Marcos “Ironside” Brigagao in the opening round. After a few minutes of finding the distance, Inocente landed a thunderous right hand, instantly dropping Brigagao to the canvas. Inocente followed that up with a couple more punches, but the referee quickly waved off the fight.

“This is the most violent show on earth and I’m in the right place,” said a victorious Inocente. “I want the champion. I’m looking for the belt. Thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to coming back in February.

“Brigagao is a tough fighter. He’s very long and he comes to fight,” continued Inocente. “But I know when I put my hands on you the fight is over and that’s what happened.”

In a fight that nobody thought would make it to the third round, let alone go the distance, Joshua “Wide Open” Weems pulled out the victory over rugged veteran Jason “The Kid” Knight. By scores of 30-26, 29-28 and 29-28 Weems defeated Knight in their 140-lbs catchweight fight.

In additional undercard action, Charles Rosa faced “Slippery Pete” Peter Barrett in a lightweight contest. The opening frame was a feeling out round. The second round proved far more entertaining with both fighters having their moments. In the third and final round, Rosa secured an anaconda choke and was able to submit Barrett.

“Big” Frank Tate won by devastating knockout over Alex “The Spartan” Nicholson. In the first frame of their heavyweight scrap, Tate landed an overhand right to Nicholson’s chin, sending Nicholson to the canvas and forcing the referee to stop the fight immediately.

In a 175-lbs catchweight bout, Jesse “The Body Snatcher” Ronson scored a first-round stoppage over Curtis “Curtious” Millender.

Light heavyweight Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara defeated Prince McLean by technical knockout. McLean suffered an injury that forced him to retire between the first and second rounds.

Javanis “The Conqueror” Ross scored a first-round victory over Tyler “The Zombie” Hill in their middleweight contest. It was a back-and-forth battle for as long as it lasted, but Ross managed to land a knee to Hill’s head that resulted in the referee intervening to halt the action.

In the opening fight of the night, which was contested at a catchweight of 150 pounds, Mike “Triangles” Sanford made quick work of David “DZ Machine” Zelner with a first-round stoppage by rear naked choke.
