Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday:
ALAN BELCHER
“It feels great to be back. I always knew that I was going to come back to MMA, and we’re here with Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA and I’m proud to be a part of it. I really feel like this is the future.
“If you look at all these fighters, you can see that we’re all real warriors. I’ve been all around and seen a lot of fakeness. These fighters are the real deal.
“I’ve been training for this my whole life. Much respect to Roy. He’s ready. He’s a legend and he’s coming to knock me out. I prepared myself for it. To me, I have to get the knockout tomorrow. That’s how I fight every single fight.
“I’ve had a lot of supporters and fans here and it wasn’t until two years ago that I finally got to fight here. I’ve gained a lot of supporters and watched a lot of the younger fighters from this area come up. It means a lot not just to be on this card, but to have these guys on here too with the energy they bring.”
ROY NELSON
“The biggest difference in this training camp was that my conditioning was incredible. With eight weeks to focus on a fight, you can really sharpen the iron a little bit more. We’re ready to go to work.
“I’m a great athlete and I’m a dog. I just go out there and put on a show for the fans. That’s what they’re here to see.”
JORGE MASVIDAL, CEO of Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA
“I’m so thankful to be able to give this opportunity to these fighters to showcase their skills to the world. This is building and growing. I’ve seen all of these fighters compete before, and they’re the types of guys who when they get hit, they don’t take a step back, they bite down and bring it.
“We’re looking for people who are gonna fight. We want people with that dog in them and that’s what we’ve got tomorrow night. I can’t wait for this card to get started.
“Every show we’ve had here has been a big success. The fans can expect good competitive violent fights with a lot of finishes. Everyone on this card is a skilled tactician who can pull the trigger. This has more ‘Fight of the Night’ matchups than we’ve ever had on a card.”
JASON KNIGHT
“I’m very appreciative of everyone coming out to support me for sure, but at the same time, it’s nerve wracking. I’ve said it before, I don’t care how many times you fight, in this sport, the lead up sucks. For me, that intensifies whenever I have so many people planning to come watch me win. It adds pressure, but diamonds are built under pressure.
“I told Costa the other day, keep your hands up bro. It’s a regular old street fight, we just both have skills. I’m gonna introduce him to the street fight.
“It’s gonna be electric fighting in front of all my friends and family and local fans. When I walk out, my fans are gonna blow the roof off the Coliseum. I absolutely love it. There’s no better feeling in the world than having your hand raised in front of your people.”
RANDY COSTA
“Tomorrow will actually be my closest thing to a street fight and I’m probably up against the baddest man in this division. He brings a lot of people, and I’m excited to mix it up with him. He has an exciting style and we’re gonna put on a show.
“I wouldn’t have taken this kind of fight if it wasn’t against Jason Knight. When you get an opportunity to fight this kind of fighter in his own backyard, and in bareknuckle MMA, you can’t say no to that. I’m excited to give Biloxi a show.”
BRANDON DAVIS
“Joe is a good fighter who brings the party. I like Joe as a person, but I’m here to fight. He comes to fight as well, and that’s what the people are here to see.”
JOE PENAFIEL
“I love Biloxi. It’s been amazing being here. It’s beautiful. I’m an easy-going guy and I’m ready to fight. I respect Brandon a lot, but I’m here to put it all on the line and show everyone what the most violent show on earth is.
“Brandon is gonna walk forward and try to kill me. But I’m here to do the same. I’m gonna walk forward into the fire and show everyone how far a guy like me can make it.
“I’m here to take his head. I love being on this big card with all these great fighters. I’m ready for war.”
JOEL BAUMAN
“It’s nothing personal and I’m not emotional about it, I just look at martial arts as being an honorable sport. And when I watch Millender against fighters who aren’t at his level, his performances are very disrespectful.
“I walk away from every fight outside of the cage. Because a samurai does not draw his blade unless it’s life or death. Millender does a lot of talking that’s unnecessary. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
CURTIS MILLENDER
“I’m having fun with this. I’m not here to disrespect him. If he decides to take it personally, then that’s fine. I’m going to do the same thing with every fighter at any level. I’m an equal opportunity ass whooper, because I can back it up.
“I wouldn’t say his last performance was a bad performance, but I feel like he fights to the caliber of his opponent. He’s gonna have to raise his level with me.”
