Kicking off the festivities at the iconic Arad Fort in Bahrain, Glenn McVeigh of Northern Ireland set the night’s rousing mood by prevailing over Russia’s Abdulmanap “Prince Goro” Magomedov in the opening featherweight bout on the main card of BRAVE CF 50 on Thursday, April 1.
Neither of the two would give each other any quarter for three whole rounds as they traded their best offense all throughout. McVeigh showcased his pinpoint accurate striking early on, peppering Magomedov with stinging kicks and stiff punches. Meanwhile, the latter pressed for takedowns from bell to bell.
Determined to leave a lasting impression in his featherweight debut, McVeigh pulled away in the final round, landing the more telling blows and stuffing takedown attempts from his opponent. In the end, the Northern Ireland native earned the undivided nod from the three judges at cageside with the scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.
McVeigh snapped his two-bout losing skid with the impressive win and improved his record to 1-2. On the other hand, Magomedov dropped to 1-2.
