MMA or “mixed martial arts” is a sport that requires every fighter to be physically and mentally healthy. Pre and Post Workout Nutrition 

The meal you take before you work out should contain enough carbohydrates. As the training session would result in a significant loss of energy, you must consume enough carbs to boost your energy levels. A perfect pre-workout meal should consist of 2 to 4 eggs, fruits, and oatmeal.

Training sessions of MMA fighters usually last for 60 to 90 minutes. The fighters cannot eat anything when the session is underway. Ideally, you must take the last heavy meal before the workout four hours before the toil begins.

The heavy meal should be followed by a light one around 90 minutes before the training begins. According to nutritionists, this meal should provide fighters with lots of nitrates. You can have a glassful of pomegranate or beetroot juice, both of which have high nitrate content. They are powerful vasodilators, and thus are perfect as pre-workout supplements.

Once your workout is over, you should not eat or drink anything right away. If you had the pre-workout meals on time, you shouldn’t feel too hungry or dehydrated after the training session. Ideally, you should have something like a glassful of tart cherry juice or whey protein shake. These are options that will calm your nerves and allow you to relax.

An ideal post-workout meal must contain 20-30% fat, 20% protein, and 50-60% carbs. You should consume avocado, salmon, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, etc. to ensure your meal consists of enough healthy fats.
