Dana White revealed in a recent interview with The Schmo, how Paulo Costa would be sidelined for up to eight months, as the Brazilian recuperates from bicep surgery, effectively scuppering the promotion’s plans to link Adesanya and Costa together in March. Undefeated bruiser Costa earned a title challenge via a unanimous decision victory over the previously mentioned Romero last time out, but it now seems the popular Cuban may receive a fourth scheduled title tilt.

Taking to Twitter last night after the news of Costa’s mishap had broken, Romero launched his name into the hat to face ‘The Last Stylebender’. @YoelRomeroMMA – “#iseeyousoonboi @stylebender“. It’s almost become a staple of Olympic silver medalist Romero, to issue a challenge to an opponent with his patented “I see you soon boi” statement, made famous in his infamous plea to then middleweight best Michael Bisping in November, 2016.

Adesanya, who recently clinched 185-pound gold against Robert Whittaker in a flawless performance in Sydney, went on to Tweet a screenshot of an exchange between himself and head coach Eugene Bareman on October 17th. where the City MMA head coach hints at a future meeting with Romero. In the WhatsApp message, we see Bareman mention “Romero” and “Shut up all the naysayers up re (sic) this great wrestler etc etc“. Kiwi-Nigerian striking talent Adesnaya replied with, “Yup I thought the same thing. Feed him to us!!“. Adesanya shared the screenshot with this caption. @stylebender – “You guys just finding out s**t we been knowing for weeks and plotting on for months! #staywoke #iseeyousoonboi @YoelRomeroMMA“.

30-year-old kickboxer Adesanya, has lit up the entire promotion since his 2018 debut, securing the middleweight championship after just seven Octagon appearances. American Top Team staple Romero on the other hand, has dropped two close losses in his most recent matches, to Paulo Costa and against Robert Whittaker in an exciting rematch. Romero has been scheduled for a middleweight title challenge on three separate occasions and holds notable victories over former division best’s Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold, as well as a decision victory over Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu standout Jacare Souza and a stoppage of former light heavyweight best Lyoto Machida.
