IUR Fighting Championship

Newry is fast becoming a thriving hub for the ever-blossoming Irish MMA Scene. The home of Cage Warriors lightweight star, Decky McAleenen, the Irish professional has turned from fighter to promotor between his duties inside the Cage.

The Promotion had a bit of a false start due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, having its inaugural event postponed on 2 occasions due to the public lockdowns in both March and October of 2020. Eventually getting its first run out on Sunday September 5th, 2021, in a behind closed door event due to restrictions. Was it worth the wait? It certainly was.

The intimate setting of the first events didn’t lessen the experience for anyone involved or the rabbit Irish MMA fans watching on PPV. If anything, it added to the magic for the fighters, officials and fans involved. Creating the feeling of an Irish version of the UFC Apex. A feeling expressed by almost everyone who had the pleasure of being there on that magical Sunday afternoon.

Moving to its official home of the Canal Court on its 3rd outing in April 2022, the sell out crowds make this one of the must see shows for fans, and the card that every fighter wants to be on. The fledgling promotion has had some of the best amateur fights on this Island in recent years. Who will ever forget Oisin Fox VS Taylor Quinn from IUR 2. Arguably the fight of the year for 2021.

Now as it enters its 5th outing, could this be its best Card yet? Headlined for a second time by Marcin Zembala, (taking on Rogger Lopez) the undercard features some mouth watering contests. The card also features former Bellator fighter George Courtney taking on Alexander Yankov. Elvis Luko, who is been on a dominant undefeated streak taking on fellow belt collector Ronan Deegan for the IUR Bantamweight title.

This card included 5 Amateur title fights, perhaps the most intriguing is the vacant welterweight title fight between Jess Paulo and Paul Buckley. Two of Irelands best and most active welterweights on the scene now. Do not sleep on this bout.

IUR FC is riding a wave of momentum due to top quality match making and breath-taking performances inside the cage from the fighters involved. This is one event that needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated. Keep up the good work IUR FC.
