Jaime Vasquez took time out of his busy schedule to talk to Roberto Villa CEO of FightBook MMA. You can check out the interview below.
Roberto: Jaime it is great to get to talk with you again! You have become a legend at the CFC in Middle Tennessee. How has life been going for you in the year that’s passed since you defended your CFC Lightweight title last march at CFC 8?
Jaime: Life went alright in the past year, the pandemic push back some of the goals I had in mind , however I was able to spend more time with my family and train regularly at home.
Roberto: Your opponent at CFC 8 was Donovan Salvato who was undefeated until he fought you. He was close to getting you in a submission during the opening minute of the first round, but you worked your way through it and basically took over the fight from there. How do you feel about your performance against Salvato and what do you think it says about you?
Jaime: Salvato gave a good fight, he went all out in the first round, so I was able to control his tiredness and took over for the rest of the fight. Personally it shows that I’m ready for the next level and it highlights the courage and ambition to always give the best and only the best of me.
Roberto: On March 6th you defend your CFC Lightweight title against the #3 lightweight contender Adonis Bonilla. Bonilla has great standup ability, do you think you make look to take this fight to the ground where you are the more proven fighter?
Jaime: Bonilla has great abilities and great potential, however that doesn’t mean he is going to defeat me, I’m ready to give the best version of me and defeat him at any cost.
Roberto: CFC owner Johnathan Ivey says you are the best pound for pound fighter in the CFC hands down. Ivey has been around the sport of MMA for a long time. What does an endorsement from him mean to you?
Jaime: It means a lot for me, honestly it’s something that push me to never give up and having someone with such a career saying positive things about me it shows the respect and trust he has towards me, I’m thankful for him, and for everything he has done for me to become what I am!
Roberto: You have basically cleaned out the lightweight division at the CFC. Ranked #1 lightweight Alexander Schenk you beat, Ranked #2 lightweight Donovan Salvato you beat. Ranked #3 lightweight Adonis Bonilla your fighting March 6th. Ranked #4 lightweight Jaysen Baker you beat. We know you are not looking past Bonilla on March 6th, but if you beat him who is left? What’s next for you?
Jaime: having defeat all of those great guys means I’m ready to face anyone. If I defeat Bonilla, my next step it’s keep going forward and try to become pro which is the goal I have for myself, I know that with my hard work and dedication I’ll soon be there!!
Roberto: Jaime as always it has been great catching up with you. Do you have any loved ones or training partners you would like to thank before we go?
Jaime: Thank you, I would like to thank everyone who supports me. my coaches, family, training buddies, close friends and specially swiftkick, the academyBJJ and chonbury Muay Thai for always being there for me.
