Clarksville, Tennessee: Johnathan Ivey’s Cage Fighting Championships 10 will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Appleton Harley-Davidson in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Jamie Vasquez is the CFC Lightweight Champion. He has a perfect record in the CFC going 5-0 with all five fights being title fights against the toughest competition in the CFC. June 26th Vasquez returns to defend his CFC Lightweight Title against the #3 Ranked CFC lightweight George Pieratt.
FightBook MMA CEO Roberto Villa caught up with Jaime about his opportunity to defend his title. Check out the conversation below.
FBMMA: Jaime thank you for taking the time to talk with us. In just under 7 weeks you defend your CFC Lightweight Championship. Are you currently a couple weeks into your fight camp? And if so how is training going for you?
Vasquez: I am constantly training in my jiu-jitsu game and also in Muay Thai I’m improving my fighting techniques.
FBMMA: You are defending your CFC Lightweight Title against the #3 Ranked Lightweight Contender George Pieratt. Have you gotten to see Pieratt fight before and if so what do you think of him as a fighter?
Vasquez: I have seen him fight, he is a fighter who has good techniques.
FBMMA: We spoke with Pieratt recently and he is very confident in his ability to beat you June 26th and become the new Lightweight Champion. How do you think Pieratt compares to Salvato or Schenk or Baker, the other people you have already defeated in the CFC?
Vasquez: Pieratt is another opponent with good qualities as a fighter who wants to take the belt, but he is not going to achieve it. I’m preparing for this fight.
FBMMA: It seems nobody can beat you in the CFC cage, nobody has shown to have what it takes to walk in that cage and get your belt. Why do you think you are so unstoppable in the CFC?
Vasquez: I like to prepare very well in all aspects of MMA, mainly mentally, my desire to win is very great.
FBMMA: How do you see the fight going June 26th? Do you think you can finish George Pieratt or do you think you will win by Judges decision again by out pointing him?
Vasquez: I see myself winning this fight either by TKO or by decision, victory is present in my mind all the time.
FBMMA: CFC owner Johnathan Ivey says you’re the greatest fighter to ever fight in the CFC. You made your debut in the organization all the way back at CFC 3. Do you feel like you are the best in the organizations history?
Vasquez: I feel very proud to know that Johnathan Ivey refers to me as the best fighter in the CFC. I will not disappoint and I will fight with everything I have to make a good fight that the fans and Johnathan Ivey will like.
FBMMA: Jaime is there any people you would like to thank or give a shout out to?
Vasquez: I want to thank all the public for their support, a thousand thanks to my coaches THE ACADEMY jiu-jitsu, CHONBURI muay thai, and SWIFTKICK MMA & BOXING.
