Jéssica Andrade vs. Rose Namajunas II targeted for UFC event on July 11th.

A strawweight rematch between former division champions, Jéssica ‘Bate Estaca’ Andrade, and ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas is targeted for rescheduling on July 11th. – after their initial fallout from the first instalment of UFC 249 on April 18th. A location or venue is yet to be confirmed by the promotion.

Andrade and Namajunas were set to rematch following their first outing back in May of last year, where the Brazilian claimed the 115-pound throne, via a worrying slam knockout. Ahead of April 18th. – Namajunas was forced to withdraw from the original co-headliner after two of her family members had passed away due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

A meeting with Andrade will mark Namajunas’ first outing since her title loss – while the Paraná native will make her premier Octagon appearance since losing the title to current champion, Zhang Weili at UFC Fight Night Shenzhen last August. News of the targeted pairing was initially reported by Combate reporters, Marcelo Barone, and Raphael Marinho.

Since her move to strawweight back in June of 2016, Andrade has secured a 7-2 record, taking the title at the second time of asking following a unanimous decision drubbing at the hands, and feet of former titleholder, Joanna Jędrzejczyk. Victories over former challenger, Jessica Penne, future flyweight title hopeful, Joanne Calderwood, and a decision triumph over former Invicta FC strawweight best, Angela Hill – earned Andrade the matchup with Jędrzejczyk.

Following the defeat, the 28-year-old returned with a vengeance, taking four victories, including her title win over Namajunas. Rebounding, Andrade took a unanimous decision win over compatriot, Cláudia Gadelha, perennial contender, Tecia Torres, and a highlight-reel knockout over Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Earning her title opportunity versus the aforementioned, Jędrzejczyk – ‘Thug’ Rose scored a statement rear-naked choke win over former Invicta FC atomweight champion, Michelle Waterson. In a truly captivating build-up to her meeting with the Pole, Namajunas withstood a barrage of trash talk – shocking the entire community when she handed Jędrzejczyk a first-round knockout loss in November of 2017. The following April, the Trevor Wittman trainee cemented her status as division queen, with a rematch decision win over Jędrzejczyk.
