Jessy Miele goes for 3rd straight win at CES 56
After two years on the sideline, Jessy Miele is tearing it up in the CES cage. She goes for her third straight stoppage victory against UFC vet Elizabeth Phillips at CES 56 on May 31 in Hartford, CT, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass. Before that, she spoke with FightBook MMA.
How important was it for you to get the win in your most recent fight after being on the sideline for so long?
Oh, it was absolutely awesome and extremely important. I needed to get back in the cage; it had been two years at that point, and it was great to get in there and enjoy the whole experience again.
Did you feel any ring rust after being out of the cage for so long?
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that, but I felt like there were a couple things that I could’ve done better, and I could’ve probably finished the fight sooner, had I competed a few times in the year leading up to that fight.
What does Elizabeth Phillips bring to the table?
She’s got a lot of experience and she’s fought in the UFC. I’d say her in-cage experience is what makes her the most dangerous in this fight.
What would this win mean for your career?
It’d be great, it’d be awesome. It’s a step in the right direction to the next level in my career. I’d love to work my way up to a title shot with CES, and it would do a lot in helping me get to the UFC. There are a lot of options available right now, and I’m really excited (laughs).
Is fighting on a bigger stage like CES more exciting, or is it just business as usual?
It’s definitely exciting. I love being a part of CES and competing on UFC Fight Pass. I’ve got family and friends all over the country, and competing on this platform allows me to perform for them, which is really exciting.
What should fans expect on May 31?
They should expect a great fight between the two of us. We both tried out for The Ultimate Fighter and actually sat next to each other for three hours while waiting to get our medicals done (laughs). I’m so excited to finally get in the ring with her. We’ve both wanted this fight for a long time, and now we’re going to do it!
