Jonas Flok is riding high on a seven-fight win streak. He’ll be looking to keep the great times rolling when the Pura Vida MMA fighter goes for his eighth straight victory against Team Alpha Male’s Kaleio Romero at Lights Out 2 on Feb. 16 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Before that, he spoke with FightBook MMA.
How did you find MMA to begin with?
I grew up as a wrestler. I started when I was five and wrestled until I was 22. I started watching the sport when I was in college and had a bit of interest in it. When I was 24, my brother got himself booked in a fight. They needed another person for the card — and the rest is history (laughs).
How do you feel about what you’ve accomplished so far?
I’m pretty happy with how things are going. I’ve got a couple losses on my record, but it’s good to have those out of the way early on in my career. I’ve got a couple belts, which is nice, and it’s only up from here.
What do you think has been the biggest reason behind your success?
Most recently my move; about two years ago I moved to Milwaukee to train at Pura Vida and I’ve been on a seven-fight win streak since then. I can’t say enough great things about being a part of this team.
Do you know much about your opponent?
A little bit. I know he’s a wrestler, he trains out of Team Alpha Male in California and he’s 4-0 right now.
Do you think you’ve got superior wrestling?
From what I’ve seen, I believe my wrestling is better.
How’s it going to feel to get that eighth straight victory?
(Laughs) It’s going to be nice. I’m really enjoying this roll I’m on now.
What are your goals for the rest of the year?
I want to get a shot in the UFC by the end of the year. I’m just going to keep plugging away one day at a time, and hopefully this is my year.
