Kamaru Usman plans to take Leon Edwards’ ‘spirit and soul’ ahead of UFC 286 title trilogy clash

Ahead of their upcoming UFC 286 title trilogy fight this weekend in London, former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman has claimed he will look to take opponent, Leon Edwards’ “spirit and soul” in the UK capital.
Headlining UFC 278 in August of last year, Usman, the former pound-for-pound number one under the promotion’s banner, dropped his undisputed welterweight crown to two-time opponent, Edwards in Salt Lake City, Utah – suffering a stunning fifth round KO loss after the latter landed a brutal left high kick.
The title outing came as a rematch of the pair’s November 2015 fight in Orlando, Florida – with Auchi native, Usman landing a unanimous decision victory Edwards on that occasion in the ‘Sunshine State’.
Previewing his pay-per-view main event return against Edwards this weekend in England, Usman noted his intentions to take the heart of the Birmingham native this Saturday on enemy territory.
“I’ve never been in this position, but I know that mentally, nothing has changed for me,” Kamaru Usman said during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast. “This is the same guy that I beat up before. He’s still going to be the same guy. I have to remind him who he is right awaw. …When I fight guys, I fight their heart because I want to break their heart, I want to break their spirit and break their soul.”
“It’s going to be a little bit more difficult this time,” Kamaru Usman explained. “In his head, he forgot about the four rounds before the kick. He forgot that I was taking his soul, so I have to remind him that I’m someone who took his soul twice.”
