Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is scheduled to face Tony Ferguson on April 18.
UFC president Dana White has stated that this fight will happen but not in the U.S. This fight has been canceled four times starting back in 2015 and looks like it’s in jeopardy again due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The global coronavirus pandemic has forced the majority of MMA gyms across the world to close. According to a Russian outlet, TASS reports that Nurmagomedov has returned to Russia to close out his training camp. Nurmagomedov’s coach Javier Mendez did mention that Abu Dhabi could be home for UFC 249.
In a recent episode of UFC Unfiltered, Daniel Cormier said that after the government’s ban on large public gatherings the gym remained open for the Lightweight champ and a few training partners for a couple of hours a day. Cormier in the interview states his take on where and when Khabib vs. Ferguson will take place.
