Lavelle Miller ready for battle against Trevor Novelo at CFC 7

MMA Vet Jonathan Ivey is back at it again as he will be hosting Cage Fighting Championships (CFC) 7. This event is taking place on October 12th in Murfreesboro Tennessee. We will see a stacked card including 4 CFC title fights.

FightBook MMA had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Lavelle Miller. He’s a huge man! He competes in both MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments. Miller fought at CFC 1 and CFC 4, he returns to fight Trevor Novelo at CFC 7 on October 12th. Check out the conversation he had with FightBook MMA below.

Lavelle thanks for talking with us just the day before weigh-ins. Since your a super heavyweight I guess there is no stress from cutting weight, how are you feeling physically and mentally about 48 hours from the time you’ll be stepping in the cage?

I feel great. I have been here before and competed in high-level competition since 8th Grade. Of course, there is no stress about having to cut weight but, you still have to mind your P’s and Q’s on the diet.

Lavelle you are a very big man. How does that benefit you in MMA and jiu-jitsu, and how have you found that it may also be negative in some ways?

More often than not, the benefit is when you are able to impose your will on your opponent by leaning your weight on them to get them tired. For me, the size along with my athleticism has made the difference in my of my grappling matches. I’m still figuring out the MMA portion but, I will soon. Once I figure out how to manage correctly in MMA, a lot of people will be in trouble.

This coming Saturday night October 12th you will be fighting Trevor Novelo at CFC 7. How do you think Nevelo compares to your previous opponents in MMA. Chase Mcmullen and Jeremiah Hill?

This is his second fight. Chase is the champ and easily the most athletic in the division at this point. Jeremiah beat me for a number one contender spot and made me feel small in the cage. I had some success against both before eventually losing. He does not compare to them. Won’t have the size, power or speed.

The CFC is loaded at the heavyweight and super heavyweight divisions with Tim Johnson, Brian Meeks, Saigh Mullins, Chase Mcmullen and yourself just to name a few. Do you think you compare favorably with those guys and do you see yourself making a run at a CFC championship eventually?

I keep my eye on these guys when they fight and even have even watched old fight videos of some of them. A few of us will be on this card. Depending on fight placement, I plan on checking them out in person. I have faith in my skill set so, I like my chances against these guys. I get this win Saturday, then I will take it one step at a time.

Lavelle in closing we wish you the absolute best of luck in your fight Saturday night. Do you have any thank you’s or shout outs before we close out this interview?
