Marcel Grabinski has endured a turbulent period in his mixed martial arts career, but he is ready to put it behind him and focus on moving an inch closer to a shot at the BRAVE CF Lightweight World Championship.
The 29-year-old German standout was supposed to face Lucas “Mineiro” Martins at BRAVE CF 51: The Future Is Here this past June, but he was deemed unable to compete by the medical staff at the time a few minutes before they could actually make their walk towards the cage.
“I was very disappointed with the cancellation, I spent a long time preparing for the fight and I was more than ready. The diet and weight-cutting went perfectly. But on the day of the fight, I felt very bad and was unable to fight,” Grabinski shared.
“I tried everything with my trainer and doctors to make the fight happen. In the end, it was not in my strength and decision. I would have fought in bad shape myself, but my trainer and the doctors did not approve,” he added.
The Bahrain-based promotion decided to reschedule the encounter between the two lightweights on the supporting card of BRAVE CF 53, which takes place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on August 21st.
“I am very happy that BRAVE CF booked the fight again as soon as possible. It was very important to me that the fight came about. I do not only owe the fight to myself, but to the fans and everyone who was looking forward to the fight in Minsk,” Grabinski said.
“I think Lucas is professional enough and won’t underestimate me, on the contrary, I think we both had more preparation time and are both even better than in the first fight. Also, there is no need to underestimate, we were both ready for the fight.”
Grabinski made his first BRAVE CF appearance last April, defeating Issa Isakov by way of unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Martins returns from a two-year hiatus and tries to break his two-fight losing skid at the expense of the German.
