New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame to honor Dr. Stu Patel with the “Ringside Physician Award”
New Jersey: The New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame is extremely proud of its seventh class of inductees to the New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame. This class will be honored at the seventh dinner gala to be held at The Event Center in iPlay America in Freehold, NJ on December 6, 2019.
On December 6th, Dr. Stu Patel will be inducted as Ringside Physician.
Dr. Saurabh ‘Stu’ Patel is a physician who practices internal medicine, occupational medicine and sports medicine.
He was raised in Edison, New Jersey, by his loving parents who are both also physicians.
He was accepted into Steven’s Institute of Technology at the age of 16 into their early scholars program. He went on to Ross University School of Medicine, where he graduated with highest honors. He completed his residency at University Hospital in Newark, and worked extensively with veterans at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in East Orange during his training.
He is currently the Medical Director of UIC Medical Centre, located in the Ironbound section of Newark. It is a family run business, and he has taken over the helms from his father the senior Dr. Patel when he completed his training. He currently runs the practice with his sister Sanketa who is the practice manager. Since joining in 2000, he has expanded the treatments offered by the office to include industrial and sports injuries, wound care and aesthetic medicine.
His expertise in Occupational Medicine includes being a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) and certified with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) & Department of Transportation (DOT). He is also a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) certified Civil Surgeon. He has been a board member and is a past president of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association of New Jersey (OEMANJ).
Dr. Patel began working as a ringside physician in 2011. He has had the privilege of working with and treating combat sports athletes from many of the renowned martial arts and boxing schools in the Newark area. Dr. Patel has worked at major boxing and MMA events throughout the state. He has also enjoyed working smaller amateur boxing, kickboxing and MMA events.
Dr. Patel lives with his wife Rafaela and four loving children in Kearny, NJ. When he is not in his office or ringside/cageside, you can find him swimming or practicing his favorite hobby of photography.
