OKTAGON 55 Results: Christian Jungwirth’s Triumphant Return in Stuttgart

Our first ever event in the German city of Stuttgart, OKTAGON 55, went down last night (Saturday, March 23) inside a capacity Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. The atmosphere was electric as a hometown hero sent the crowd wild and a number of definitive finishes took place.

In the welterweight main event, Christian Jungwirth (15-8) defeated Robert Pukač (16-13-1) for a second time in his comeback from injury. ‘The Kelt’ had a raucous reception as he entered the arena with everyone in attendance singing along to his walkout song. He displayed a well-rounded game, mixing together his striking and grappling effectively, on his way to a unanimous decision victory. In his post-fight interview, he called for a Stuttgart vs. Frankfurt showdown with Christian Eckerlin at the record breaking OKTAGON 62 Frankfurt Football stadium event later this year.

Alexander Poppeck (17-5) reminded everyone in the light heavyweight division what he is capable of in the co-headliner when he stopped Jeremy Kimball (19-11)by TKO in the first round. ‘Ironside’ landed on top of his adversary early on in the contest and rained down strikes until the referee waved off the bout. He now has eleven career TKO/KO stoppages, and many fascinating matchups await him.

In a feature bout, Máté Kertész (15-7, 1NC) proved that he is still an important player at welterweight when he submitted Niklas Stolze (13-7) in round two. Furthermore, Arijan Topallaj (7-0-1) cemented himself as one of the brightest prospects in OKTAGON MMA by knocking outKarol Ryšavý (13-7) emphatically after just 36 seconds.

Elsewhere on the card, Lucia Szabová (7-0) was victorious in her MMA return following the birth of her daughter, submitting Róża Gumienna (5-4)by armbar at bantamweight. Jacinta Austin (6-2) bested Karolina Wójcik (11-5) over three rounds to bounce back in the strawweight division.
