Exciting submission-specialist Angela Lee is arguably one of the brightest prospects not just in ONE Championship, but mixed-martial arts today. The British Columbia native is still just 23-years of age, and has already launched a gold laden career. Securing the ONE Championship atomweight world title at the age of just 20, Lee has already lodged three successful title defenses, and despite dropping her last two contests, puts her 105 pound gold up for grabs this weekend at ONE: CENTURY:.

The Canadian born grappler meets a familiar rival this Sunday in Tokyo, as she rematches Xiong Jingnan, this time Lee becomes the defender. The pair initially clashed in March, with Lee attempting to pry the strawweight world championship from the Chinese striker, a feat which resulted in her first professional blemish. Just four months later, Lee returned, this time in a non title bout with fellow grappling ace Michelle Nicolini, where she dropped a second straight loss, this time via a somewhat dubious unanimous decision.

Despite two straight losses, Angela Lee still remains a promising commodity for Chatri Sityodtong’s organization, given her still naive career and dangerous skill set. The owner of seven submission finishes, Lee has landed an incredibly rare Twister choke submission, a name coined by 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu owner and grappling legend Eddie Bravo. Lee has also secured armbars, rear-naked chokes and an anaconda stoppage during her eleven fight stint. During her three successful title covers, Lee was almost faultless. Earning a Fight of The Year accolade in her title triumph over Mei Yamaguchi, Lee went on to once more best the veteran Japanese grappler in her most recent win, after returning from the sidelines due to a car collision.

Lee enters the rematch with Jingnan with the knowledge that she has been stopped before, and the sheer danger the striking of the strawweight best presents. In their opening clash, Lee had her moments but was eventually stopped in the fifth and final round, but this time Jingnan makes the drop to atomweight. The magnitude of a victory for Lee is quite massive. Not only does the youngster avenge a her first ever loss, but more than likely books a rubber-match with Jingnan further down the road.
