A mouth-watering interim Cage Warriors featherweight title bout between Paul Hughes and former undisputed featherweight champion, Morgan Charriere has been booked to headline Cage Warriors 128 on October 1. from York Hall in London, England — as part of the promotion’s Trilogy billed event.

Hughes and former undisputed gold holder, Charriere will meet for an interim Cage Warriors featherweight title, whilst champion, common-foe of both, Jordan Vucenic recovers from injury.

Per Cage Warriors president, Graham Boylan — the introduction of an interim featherweight title allows the division to move forward whilst Vucenic deals with his recovery, and offers either Hughes or Charriere the opportunity to score a rematch with the 25-year-old in the future.

It’s a shame that Jordan Vucenic is still injured but the division must move forward,” Boylan said. “(Paul) Hughes vs. (Morgan) Charriere will decide our interim champion, which works out perfectly, seeing as both men want to avenge losses to Vucenic in the future.

7-1 as a professional, Fight Academy Ireland mainstay, Hughes enters his interim title showdown with Charriere off the back of a unanimous decision victory over James Hendin back at Cage Warriors 120 in March of this year.

Poissy, France native, Charriere enters his interim title clash with Hughes, off the back of a championship loss to the aforenoted, Vucenic back in March as well at Cage Warriors 122 — suffering a split decision loss and as well as snapping a three-fight undefeated run.

Forced the distance against Hendin, Hughes has managed to lodge three knockout victories to go with a further three other submission stoppages in his career.

An alum of BAMMA, Hughes has competed five times under the Cage Warriors banner — besting Matuesz Makarowski, Youri Panada, Aidan Stephen, and the above-mentioned, Hendin in between his split judging loss to Vucenic.

A hugely popular figure in his native France, Charriere, who boasts a 16-8-1 professional record has himself notched knockout victories in eight walks, to go with a further four submission stoppages.

The former undisputed champion has laid waste to the likes of Perry Andre Goodwin, Dean Trueman, Lewis Monarch, Julien Graco during his professional run.
