Pedro Munhoz vs. Frankie Edgar in the works for UFC event on July 11th.

A bantamweight bout between submission-specialist, Pedro ‘The Young Punisher’ Munhoz, and former UFC lightweight best, Frankie ‘The Answer’ Edgar is targeted to feature at a UFC event on July 11th. – with a location and venue yet to be announced by the organization.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sensation, Munhoz – last featured at UFC 238 in June, losing a unanimous decision to fellow perennial contender, Aljamain Sterling. Veteran challenger, Edgar on the other hand, is expected to finally make his debut at 135-pounds, following his decision to take a short-notice matchup with Chan Sung Jung at UFC Fight Night Busan in December – ahead of a meeting with surging all-rounder, Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night Raleigh in January. News of the planned matching was first reported by MMA Fighting reporters, Guilherme Cruz and Damon Martin.

Before his defeat to Sterling, 33-year-old contender, Munhoz had notched eye-catching victories over Brett Johns, Bryan Caraway, and former titleholder, Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt in a first frame firefight. The former RFA bantamweight best, joined the promotions rank back in February of 2014 – losing a decision to compatriot, Raphael Assunção. Since then, the American Top Team trainee managed other notable triumphs over Russell Doane, Justin Scoggins, and Rob Font.

Before his short-notice knockout loss to ‘The Korean Zombie’ – Edgar had made his third claim for the 145-pound championship. In the first of two defeats, the Tom’s River native lost a unanimous decision shutout to former gold-holder, Max Holloway. The 38-year-old scored the UFC lightweight title back in 2010, with a unanimous decision win over B.J. Penn – before defending for the premier time against the Hawaiian grappler. With one of the most storied and successful résumés in the sport’s history – the Ricardo Almeida product has notched victories over Sean Sherk, Hermes Franca, Jim Miller, Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, Charles Oliveira, Chad Mendes, Cub Swanson (x2), Jeremy Stephens, Urijah Faber, and featherweight upstart, Yair Rodríguez.
