This Saturday night, at the aptly named KSW 53: Reborn event in Warsaw, Poland, we will see the return of Polish MMA legend Tomasz ‘Gorilla’ Drwal (21-5-1) after five years away from the action.
The 38-year-old is a pioneer in this part of the world and was the first Polish fighter to compete in the UFC paving the way for future fighters from Poland. While in the UFC, Drwal scored three stoppages victories in a row including a ‘Knockout of the Night’ bonus for his win over Mike Ciesnoleveicz. Following his departure from the UFC in late 2010 he won four straight fights before making his first and only appearance in KSW against fellow legend Michal Materla in the main event of KSW 31.
Materla scored a TKO finish in the final moments of the third round and lifted the middleweight title. Drwal on the other hand stepped away from the sport following the contest and left fans wanting his return ever since.
Now five years and two months later the ‘Gorilla’ is back and is Reborn! Returning to KSW with unfinished business and his sights set on super fights with the likes of Michal Materla and Mamed Khalidov. But first, he must get past the dangerous and unpredictable Lukasz Bienkowski (5-3) otherwise known as ‘The Polish Wanderlei’ due to his fighting style and fearlessness.
