A flyweight division clash between former undisputed division champion, Deiveson Figueiredo and challenger, Manel Kape is currently targeted to feature at UFC 290 on July 8. during International Fight Week at he T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Figueiredo, the current #1 ranked flyweight contender, has been sidelined since he co-headlined UFC 283 back in January in his native Brazil, suffering a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to four-time opponent, Brandon Moreno in the pair’s title unification clash.

As for Angola-born contender, Kape, the former Rizin FF champion currently holds the #9 rank in the flyweight division, most recently defeating David Dvorak in a decision victory at UFC Vegas 66 last December. Kape also saw a fight with would-be common-foe, Alex Perez pulled from UFC Fight Night San Antonio last month. ESPN Deportes reporter, Carlos Contreras Legaspi was first to report the news of Figueiredo’s targeted fight with Kape.

“Per sources: a flyweight contest between former champion Deiveson Figueiredo and Manel Kape is in the works for #UFC290, July 8th in Las Vegas,” Legaspi tweeted. “Fight has been offered to both sides and is expected to be doon soon.” 

First winning vacant flyweight gold on ‘Fight Island’ in 2020, Figueiredo stopped Joseph Benavidez with a dominant first round submission win, before defending the title against Perez, and retaining the crown in his first fight with Moreno in December of that year.

The Brazilian then suffered a submission loss to Moreno – droppingh is crown the following year, before taking the undisputed title in January of last year in the pair’s trilogy bout in the co-main event of UFC 270.

During his Octagon tenure, fan-favorite technician, Kape has landed victories over ‘Ode Osbourne, Zhalgas Zhumagulov, and the above-mentioned, Dvorak in December of last year.
