A welterweight pairing between future Hall of Fame inductees, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Diego ‘The Nightmare’ Sanchez is currently in the works for a UFC event on May 8th. – with a location or venue for the showcase yet to be determined by the promotion.

Veteran Muay Thai practitioner, Cerrone is targeting his first Octagon outing of the year, following an original majority draw against Niko ‘The Hybrid’ Price at UFC Vegas 11 last September — which was subsequently overturned to a no contest after the latter returned a positive test result for marijuana metabolites.

Denver native, Cerrone saw his four-fight skid halted via his majority draw against Price, where he suffered two unintentional eye pokes.
Himself detailing how he’s making one more run before hanging up his gloves, Cerrone hopes to recover from a string of stoppage losses to Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, and Conor McGregor, before an eye-catching back-and-forth against two-time foe, Anthony Pettis where he dropped a close decision defeat.

A fifteen-year professional veteran, Cerrone has challenged for both WEC and UFC lightweight championships in the past, with notable victories coming over the likes of Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Melvin Guillard, KJ Noons, Edson Barboza, Jim Miller, Eddie Alvarez, Benson Henderson, Matt Brown, and Al Iaquinta.

A former King of the Cage welterweight champion an the victor of the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, Sanchez has competed a stunning thirty-two times under the UFC’s banner and holds a 30-13 professional record.

The 39-year-old, like opponent Cerrone is a former longtime Jackson Wink MMA mainstay, but in recent Octagon outings, has joined ranks with head coach, Joshua Fabia. Scoring notable careers wins over the likes of Kenny Florian, Nick Diaz, Karo Parisyan, Joe Stevenson, Clay Guida, Martin Kampmann, Takanori Gomi, common-foe, Miller, and recent victories over Mickey Gall and Michel Pereira, Sanchez looks ready to call it a career.
