Former interim UFC lightweight champion and the #7 ranked contender, Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is slated for his first Octagon appearance since last May – returning just shy of a year away from action at UFC 274 on May 7. against former vacant title challenger, ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ferguson, who once held the division record for most consecutive victories at 12 alongside arch-rival and former undisputed champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has found himself in the midst of a three fight losing run, most recently dropping a one-sided loss to the #4 rated, Beneil Dariush at UFC 262.

Riding a two-fight losing skid of his own, Missouri veteran, Chandler opened the main card of UFC 268 back in November at Madison Square Garden – dropping a Fight of the Year outing against UFC 274 main event feature, common-foe, Justin Gaethje. Sports Illustrated reporter, Justin Barrasso was first to report the addition to the UFC 274 card.

Before his loss to Dariush, Ferguson dropped a pair of one-sided losses to event headliners, current undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira, and former interim champion, Gaethje – the latter of which in a brutal eventual fifth round TKO loss.

A former interim lightweight champion, Ferguson slapped a triangle win on promotional alum, Kevin Lee back in 2017 to win the interim strap, with his most recent professional victory coming in the form of a second round doctor’s stoppage TKO win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 238.

Prior to his judging defeat against Gaethje, Chandler, a former three-time Bellator lightweight kingpin, suffered a second round knockout loss of his own against Oliveira in the pair’s UFC 262 vacant lightweight title showdown.

Landing in the Octagon for the first time in January of last year on ‘Fight Island’ – Chandler co-headlined UFC 257, scoring a massive first round knockout win over Dan Hooker.
