Ring of Combat 63 Preview

Fight fans in the tri-state area will be coming out in droves to see Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat promotion on June 8th in Atlantic City, New Jersey as they host ROC 63. The long time promotion is returning to The Tropicana Casino to put on yet another amazing fight card. Ring of combat is one of the most successful feeder promotion for the UFC, have over 100 fighters of the promotion being called up to the big show and many more to come. Ring of Combat has been home to such big names as former UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, former Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman, UFC Hall of Famer and former Welterweight Champion Matt Serra and many more. There are some great MMA promotions that produce some great fighters to head up to the big show, but Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat will always reign supreme. This main card gives fight fans 6 main card bouts to make any MMA fan sit on the edge of their seats and scream till they have no voice left by the end of the evening.

With all of the amazing fights on this card, there are two fights that stand out and have had this event almost completely sold out. The ROC Featherweight champion Bill Algeo(9-3-0) is no stranger to being in the big spotlight, Algeo has fought for promotions like CFFC and WSOF and now he looks to defend his title against Serra BJJ standout James Gonzalez. Alego won the vacant Featherweight title from Tom Dooling back in November of 2017, this will be his first title defense since his last fight scheduled was cancelled due to his opponent having an illness, Alego has been chomping at the bit to get back in the cage and begin his title reign for the Ring of Combat promotion. His opponent James Gonzalez(4-2-0) has not been back in the cage since his decision loss against Mike Trizano for the vacant title back in Sept of 2017, but before that he was riding an exciting 4 fight winning streak. When you hear a fighter is coming out of the Serra camp, you know this fighter is going to be very skilled on the feet and deadly on the ground. Will Alego’s experience in major promotions be the key to victory against Gonzalez? Most experts would say yes, just because he is used to fighting on the bigger stage and might not have the nerves that Gonzalez could have against the slightly more experienced Alego. In my honest opinion, I don’t think that will be any factor at all, when you have Matt Serra and Ray Longo not only physically preparing you, but mentally as well, I think this fight will be a war and I cannot wait to see this fight live!!!

Championship fights should be the highlight of the evening, but there is one fighter that is coming back to ROC to get himself back on his winning ways, and set him back up to the UFC. After recently being cut by the UFC, Ricardo Almeida superstar Frankie Perez(10-4-0) is slated to fight a tough opponent in Jerome Mickle(3-5-0). Fight fans remember when Frankie had retired after winning his first UFC bout against Sam Stout, stating that he wanted to take some time off and enjoy being with his family. These fighters put their bodies and their mind through so much torment, we as fans never think of the impact that it has on their friends and their family. Frankie never stopped training and came back after recharging his batteries. After returning to the UFC, Perez dropped two straight fights and was cut by Dana White. Knowing the type of warriors that train at Almeida’s gym, Frankie is going to take those two losses and turn that into the fuel that will spark the fire of his winning ways, and he will be ready to take the MMA world by storm!!

We fight fans who live here in the tri-state area really do get spoiled with our nightlife that includes MMA. Those of you who live close, hit up the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike and head on down to the beach with beautiful lights. When you see those lights, make sure you turn on Boardwalk and enter the Tropicana Casino, put 10 on red and then head over to the Arena to see some amazing mixed martial arts, that can only be seen from Ring of Combat!!! Below is the list of fights that will be featured on the main card for June 8th.
