Kickboxing Legend Jérôme Le Banner

Jérôme Le Banner is one of the most recognizable figures in the world of kickboxing. The French-born martial artist has won multiple K-1, ISKA, and WKN titles during almost three decades of fighting under striking rules. Le Banner has fought in well over one hundred matches across kickboxing, boxing, and MMA; his kickboxing record is 83-22 with an impressive 67 wins by knockout. Among his victories, he has defeated Tyrone Spong, Musashi, Remy Bojansky, Gary Goodridge, Mark Hunt, Dan Frye, Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts and Choi Hong-Man.

Le Banner has challenged in MMA since 2001 with a record of 3-3, most notably defeating Yoshihiro Akiyama and Jimmy Ambriz. He was expected to debut one year ago at ROAD FC 047 in Bejing, China, but was sidelined with a knee injury. Le Banner will return to the cage once again to fight in an openweight bout at ROAD FC 035. His opponent will be announced shortly.

ROAD FC Lightweight Championship

ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol (21-10, Team Korea MMA) claimed his title in 2014 with a win over Japanese stand out and current Pancrase Champion Kume Takasuke. He successfully defended it in a rubber match with Korean MMA original fighter Lee Kwang-Hee, and his last defense was a ground and pound victory over former Shooto Champion Shinji Sasaki. Kwon has watched the $1 Million Lightweight Tournament with interest, as over forty competitors fought their way through the brackets to reach him and the $1 million prize. Now he will finally get back in the cage after two years to face his biggest challenger: tournament finalist Mansour Barnaoui.

Mansour Barnaoui (18-4, Team Magnum/TriStar Gym) is a former M-1 and BAMMA Champion. He has first round submissions over Ki Won-Bin, Kim Chang-Hyun, Nandin-Erdene, and Kota Shimoishi in the tournament. In the finals at ROAD FC 025, Barnaoui showed brilliant technique and planning, then finished a strong and aggressive Shamil Zavurov with a beautiful flying knee.

Barnaoui has proven himself to be a talented and impressive fighter during his two years in ROAD FC. Finally he will have the gold belt and the $1 million prize in his sights as he faces the knock out power of Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol.

ROAD FC 053

Two more fights are announced for ROAD FC 053.

Firefighter Fighter Shin Dong-Guk (2-1, ROAD Gym Wonju) will rematch Tamotsu Hayashi (6-4, Honey Trap). In their first meeting at ROAD FC 048, they were on their way to delivering the fight of the night when Shin’s low blows stopped Hayashi from being able to continue. The match went to the score cards, and Shin’s yellow card deductions meant that the Unanimous Decision went to Hayashi.

Two 90kg prospects will face off, Lim Dong-hwan (3-3, Team Strong Wolf) versus Kim Tae-In (1-0, ROAD Jim Gangnam MMA). Lim won a bronze medal at the 2013 Asian Sambo Championships and gained MMA experience in the Central League and Young Guns, and put himself on the map with a brilliant KO of Park Jung-Kyo. Kim Tae-In is a champion amateur boxer with 15 wins to his credit, and in his ROAD FC debut, won his first victory by defeating slugger Kim Ji-Hoon.

Young Guns 42

The first bout announced for the Young Guns 42 preliminary card is between a native of Jeju Island and a ROAD FC Central League tournament champion. Jeju native Shin Ji-Seung (debut, Team Sukkuda) has competed in amateur MMA under ROAD FC. Ji Young-Min (debut, Von Jiujitsu) recently won the featherweight tournament at the 46th ROAD FC Central League. This will be an important match for both prospects as they transition into their professional careers.
