Sean Patrick Flanery sat down with FightBook MMA to talk about his MMA inspired movie “Born A Champion”

FightBook MMA had the incredible opportunity to talk to Sean Patrick Flanery. Our correspondent Arlow Jumper had a very interesting conversation with him. The cast of Born A Champion consists of Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow) and Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints) headline this powerful martial arts action film about the love for family and the drive for greatness. After a blood-soaked jujitsu match in Dubai, fighting legend Mickey Kelley (Flanery) falls to superstar Blaine. But years later, an online video proves that Blaine cheated, and the world demands a rematch. Can the aging underdog get back into shape in time to vanquish his foe, get revenge, and claim his prize?

Sean Patrick Flanery Biography:

Sean Patrick Flanery was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the son of a real estate broker and a medical equipment salesman. The family soon moved to the idyllic city of Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston. It was in Texas where Flanery inadvertently discovered acting because of a crush on a girl. The crush was fleeting but ignited Flanery’s passion for drama. The actor honed his skills in the theatre program at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, and upon graduation, made the big leap west to Los Angeles, where he secured a job waiting tables. Shortly after, Flanery landed an agent and started his career in television and films.

Flanery has been a leading man on big and small screens for the past two and a half decades, starting with his starring role in the George Lucas television series THE YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES. After that breakout hit, Flanery followed it up with a mesmerizing performance as the title character in the Disney film POWDER, starring opposite Jeff Goldblum. Flanery’s big screen roles did not stop there, with leading performances in Suicide Kings, The Grass Harp, Simply Irresistible, the cult classic The Boondock Saints, and Saw 3D. In 2016, Flanery released his first novel, JANE TWO, published by Hachette, and to wide critical acclaim. Currently, Flanery has the highly anticipated and emotionally heavy film, “Mickey Kelley”, starring Dennis Quaid, Katrina Bowden, Reno Wilson, Edson Barbosa, and Renzo Gracie, which he also wrote and is Executive Producing for Forrest Films with a theatrical release expected in late spring of 2020.

The actor has had the pleasure of playing many diverse characters for the television audience as well. From 2002-2007 Flanery played the troubled politician, Greg Stilson, opposite Anthony Michael Hall in the USA Networks The Dead Zone. Flanery also appeared in the Jerry Bruckheimer series The Strip, as well as Jacob Elway, the lead Private Investigator in the eighth season of Showtime’s Emmy winning drama series DEXTER. And, for 2021, he can be seen on the highly anticipated 3rd season of AMAZON’S hit TV show THE BOYS.

Flanery resides in California and Texas with his family. The actor and fitness enthusiast also maintains a busy schedule outside of the industry. A life-long practitioner of multiple martial arts, Flanery has a 3rd degree blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Flanery opened up his first martial arts academy, Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2003, where he still frequently teaches classes which enables him to maintain his own physical fitness while training a new generation of martial arts experts. More recently, he has opened a Houston BJJ academy that is a 501C3 to pay forward his martial arts legacy.
