After a longer than expected wait, Jose “Shorty” Torres is finally on deck to make his much-awaited Brave Combat Federation debut. He meets Amir Albazi in the main card of Brave 23: Pride and Honor, which takes place in Amman, Jordan, on April 19th. Initially scheduled to face the undefeated Albazi at Brave 22, the American wrestler was forced off the Philippines card due to injury but guarantees the build-up will be worth it.
Torres hasn’t fought since August of last year and is itching to be back in action. He anticipates a tough fight against Albazi but promises to deliver an exciting first fight for Brave Nation and for the hardcore Jordanian fans.
“I’m 100% healthy this time, and I’m just getting down in my weight. I’m ready, I think it’s going to be an amazing debut. We’re not even in our primes yet, Amir is 25 and I’m 26. He’s undefeated and I was too, up until my last fight. It is going to be an amazing fight. Win, lose or draw for either one, it’s going to be a spectacle. I’m really excited to go to Jordan, as their fans are very knowledgeable. You’re gonna see a 100% Jose Torres and I’m excited to see a 100% Amir Albazi. It’s definitely going to be worth the wait”, guarantees Torres.
“Shorty” admits being frustrated after having to pull out of his debut, as he was excited to fight in the Philippines, but admits that fighting in the “biggest card in the promotion’s history” is an honor.
“I actually ended up very, very sick with the flu, there was a virus going around Chicago. And then, I got caught with a kick and a nasty cut opened up, which Amir would have no trouble opening up again if we fought at Brave 22. It was extremely frustrating to pull out because it wasn’t my choice. I wanted to prove a point and keep going, but my team respectfully asked me to postpone the fight. It’s a great change. My last fight was the co-main event, and I was so excited because I’ve never been to the Philippines and it was going to be an awesome debut. I was excited to be so high up the card too, but now I’m fighting in the biggest-ever Brave card, with three title fights, got pushed up to the main card, and being one of the most important fights is an honor”, explains the American.
Brave 23 will be headlined by three title fights, with Welterweight champion Jarrah Al-Selawe headlining the card against top contender Abdoul Abdouraguimov. Lightweight titleholder Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady takes on Brazilian striker Luan “Miau” Santiago, while Eldar Eldarov and Mounir Lazzez compete for the first-ever Super Lightweight world title.
