Should John Cena Face Austin Theory In A Rematch At Wrestlemania 40?

It’s no secret that John Cena’s in-ring career is winding down to where many assume he’s already finished following his defeat at the hands of Solo Sikoa at this year’s Crown Jewel 2023 PPV. As John Cena has fully transitioned into the acting scene, being one of the biggest Hollywood stars in the world, considering he’s also in his late 40s, it’s clear that John Cena doesn’t have many matches left in his tank if he were to return to the ring again. Because of this, if John Cena were to return to the ring for one more match, it would be best to have him go out on a high note rather than continue his string of losses in recent years.
Furthermore, one way for John Cena to redeem his credibility is by facing SmackDown superstar Austin Theory in a rematch at WrestleMania 40, with John Cena potentially winning over the young and up-coming superstar. One of John Cena’s most recent losses was losing to Austin Theory at WrestleMania 40, which arguably didn’t do much to elevate Austin Theory’s career.
Austin Theory is a talented performer, but he’s become uninteresting to many fans as of late. Because of this, some may enticed by the idea of John Cena facing Austin Theory in a rematch at WrestleMania 40, especially with John Cena getting a win over him and showing that he still can hang with the best WWE superstars.
However, considering that Austin’s Theory is a full-time active superstar on the roster and John Cena has hardly been active in WWE in recent years, one could also argue that Austin Theory losing to John Cena wouldn’t make much sense if the company still plans to utilize Austin Theory as a future main-event attraction for years to come. But then again, when there’s a story to be told, like John Cena’s redemption, facing Austin Theory in a rematch and getting a win over him could be a “feel good” story for WrestleMania 40.
