October 8th. 2016, Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping secures the first and ultimately, final defense of his middleweight crown, in a bad blooded re-run with mixed-martial-arts legend Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson. The Manchester pioneer returned to home roots for his clash with the former Pride FC middleweight and welterweight best, and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Henderson, running back their iconic UFC 100 clash.
We’ve all seen the brutal ‘H-Bomb’ that the decorated Henderson landed on Bisping in ’09, six years later, Bisping scored his redemption. Despite suffering two knockdowns, the more active Bisping rallied to outland Henderson by almost fifty strikes to take a unanimous decision victory in London.
In a big name co-main event, Dutch striking ace Gegard Mousasi handed Brazilian icon Vitor Belfort a second round knockout loss, handing ‘The Phenom’ his second straight slip in a then dwindling career. Michael Bisping wasn’t the only British mixed-martial-arts icon on the card, with the recently retiring Jimi Manuwa stopping Ovince Saint-Preux with a beautiful shot in the second frame.
We were treated to two quickfire submissions in the opening two clashes of the main card, with Stefan Struve finishing Daniel Omielanczuk with a D’arce, and Bosnia’s Mirsad Bektic stopping Russell Doane with a rear-naked choke late in the opening round.
Some recognizable names featured on the Fox Sports 1 Preliminary card, with dynamic lightweight striker Marc Diakiese opening the section, and now perennial 170 pound contender Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards finished Albert Tumenov via submission to mark his second straight win. Iuri Alcantara also scored an upset victory with a first round triangle triumph over Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett.
The hugely entertaining ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry made his foreign soil bow in the UFC Fight Pass Preliminary headliner in bloody back-and-forth with Danny Roberts. Also extending his win streak to two, welterweight boxer Perry managed a late, but great knockout of Roberts in the final round. The promotional undefeated lightweight Leonardo Santos picked up a narrow split decision over compatriot over Adriano Martins in the event’s curtain raiser.
