Two Titles on the Line & a Legend Returns at KSW 66
The first KSW event of 2022 will take place on January 15 live from the Netto Arena in Szczecin, Poland, and will see two titles on the line and the return of a KSW legend.
Marian ‘Golden Boy’ Ziolkowski (23-8-1) defends his KSW lightweight title against former welterweight champion Borys ‘The Tasmanian Devil’ Mankowski (22-8-1) in an all-Polish main event fans have been waiting for.
Ziolkowski won the vacant lightweight title at KSW 57 at the end of 2020 with a flawless win over Roman Szymanski and has since defended the title once by submitting KO artist Maciej Kazieczko this past April at KSW 60. He is now relishing the opportunity to defend his title against one of the biggest stars in KSW.
Fans have been wanting Mankowski to challenge for the title ever since he dropped down to lightweight last year. The 32-year-old defeated UFC veterans Jesse Taylor, David Zawada, & John Maguire, to just a few, during his reign as welterweight champion. However, after losing the title to Roberto Soldic he was forced to reassess his career and set his sights at becoming a multi-weight KSW champion.
In the co-main event, light heavyweight king Tomasz Narkun (18-4) welcomes the challenge of Russia’s Ibragim Chuzhigaev (15-5). With five successful title defences in KSW, Tomasz Narkun has risen to become one of the top light heavyweights in the world. The 32-year-old boasts wins over Goran Reljic, Ivan Erslan, Sokoudjou, and became the first man to beat Mamed Khalidov in KSW.
Now he faces the in-form Ibragim Chuzhigaev who is on an impressive 11-1 run since 2014. The former middleweight is known for his explosive striking as well as his ability to finish the fight on the ground and has registered notable wins over UFC veterans Alex Garcia, Mike Rhodes, and David Mitchell. The 30-year-old is now coming into KSW to make an immediate impact and become KSW light heavyweight champ.
If that wasn’t enough, KSW 66 will also see the promotional return of KSW legend and former middleweight champion Michal Materla (30-8). The 37-year-old is a true icon of European MMA and his knockout wins over Rousimar Palhares, Paulo Thiago, Tomasz Drwal, Rodney Wallace, and Damian Janikowski, have cemented his place as one of the most entertaining fighters to grace the KSW cage.
Materla returns having avenged a loss from earlier in his career and is now back in KSW to make some more memories. His opponent will be announced very soon.
KSW 66 will be available to watch live exclusively on Viaplay in Poland, Scandinavia, & the Baltics, and worldwide on www.KSWTV.com & the KSW App!
