Per an email to UFC employees from promotional president, Dana White, the UFC has elected to postpone UFC Fight Night London, UFC Fight Night Columbus, and UFC Fight Night Portland, indefinitely – due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. News of the postponing was initially reported by UFC analyst, Michael Carroll.
UFC Fight Night London was originally scheduled to be headlined by a welterweight clash between former champion, Tyron Woodley, and perennial contender, Leon Edwards. The event was expected to be relocated to the United States due to the ongoing travel restrictions, with former lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos, former interim champion, Colby Covington, and streaking contender, Gilbert Burns, offering to meet Woodley on a week’s notice – after Leon Edwards was forced to withdraw due to travel restrictions.
UFC Fight Night Columbus on March 28th. – was expected to be headlined by a heavyweight title eliminator between Francis Ngannou, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The Ohio card, along with UFC Fight Night Portland on April 11th. was expected to be relocated to the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, until the Nevada State Athletic Commission issued a suspension on combat sports events in the state as a precautionary measure. UFC’s return to Portland was expected to be headlined by a heavyweight matchup between the decorated Dutch kickboxer, Alistair Overeem, and the returning, Walt Harris.
As of yet, it’s unknown if the promotion will postpone the lightweight title clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson which is scheduled to take place on April 18th., in an event billed as UFC 249. The promotion explained recently how the pay-per-view event wouldn’t been held in either Brooklyn, New York – or Las Vegas, Nevada.
