UFC welterweight contender, the #4 ranked Vicente Luque is set to serve as the official backup to this weekend’s UFC 268 main event between champion, Kamaru Usman and title challenger, former interim gold holder Colby Covington — with the Sanford MMA mainstay slated to appear at the official weigh-ins on Friday morning.

Luque, who is undefeated in his last four straight fights, earned the #4 rank in the official welterweight pile back in August at UFC 265 — submitting Michael Chiesa with a slick opening round D’Arce choke victory. The win earned Luque his third straight post-fight bonus as he scooped a Performance of the Night accolade.

According to a report from ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto, as per Luque’s manager, Dominance MMA leader, Ali Abdelaziz, and UFC officials, Luque is expected to weigh-in on Friday morning at the official weigh-in, and will serve as the official backup to Usman vs. Covington II in the eventuality that his services are required.

Vicente Luque (VicenteLuqueMMA) will weigh-in on Friday in Manhattan as a backup to the welterweight title fight on UFC 268, per his manager Ali Abdelaziz (AliAbdelaziz00) and the UFC,” Okamoto tweeted.

Prior to his submission victory over TUF victor, Chiesa, New Jersey-born finisher, Luque scored a prior D’Arce choke success against former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley — which came off the back of a pair of knockout triumphs against both Randy Brown and Niko Price.

Hoping to score his fifth straight success welterweight title knockback, Usman makes his third Octagon walk of the year — following a stunning second round one-punch knockout victory over two-time opponent, Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 in April.

For Covington, the MMA Masters trainee returns for the first time since September of last year when he handed common-foe, the aforenoted, Woodley an eventual fifth round TKO loss after the Missouri veteran suffered a rib injury during a grappling scramble.
