Former UFC bantamweight contender, John ‘Hands of Stone’ Lineker has continued his surge through the ONE Championship ranks — scoring a massive stoppage over short-notice replacement, Troy Worthen at ONE on TNT 3 last night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Making his third professional walk under the Chatri Sityodtong’s banner, Lineker was initially scheduled to matchup with promotional newcomer, Stephen Loman — with a positive COVID-19 test ruling the former Brave CF bantamweight kingpin from proceedings.
Landing in the promotion back in October of 2019 — Lineker has made waves from the onset, scoring a pair of wins over Muin Gafurov, and a knockout stoppage over former ONE Championship bantamweight champion, Kevin Belingon.
Headlining last night’s ONE on TNT 3 event, the Parana puncher launched a huge counter right hand, sending Worthen to the canvas, before following up with an equally punishing hammer-fist, which rendered the Florida-based contender unconscious.
It’s now three straight successes under the ONE Championship for Lineker, who primes himself for a shot at the bantamweight championship.
Following the win, Lineker called for a title pairing against reigning champion, Bibiano Fernandes.
“I came here to be a champion,” Lineker said. “I want Bibiano (Fernandes) to show that I’m better than him and that I’m the best in the world.“
Also stamping his title aspirations, Yuya Wakamatsu scored a unanimous decision victory over Australia’s Reece McLaren. With the victory, Wakamatsu extended his winning spree to four fights following his March 2019 knockout loss to recent title chaser, former UFC flyweight best, Demetrious Johnson.
On the preliminary card, Ok Roon Yae earned his end of month showdown with fellow contender, former UFC and Bellator lightweight best, Eddie Alvarez with a unanimous judging win of his own over Marat Gafurov. Roon Yae will meet with Alvarez at ONE on TNT 4 — with the victor making inroads to defending champion, Christian Lee’s throne.
Opening the event, a Muay Thai showdown between veteran striking artists, John Wayne Parr and Nieky Holzken. With just over a minute elapsed in the second round, Dutch veteran, Holzken landed a huge left high-kick knocking Parr down in a one-sided win, forcing the referee to call a halt to the action.
