FightBook MMA gives 2018 Pan American Champion Amanda Ginski a call to get her comments on her bout in WAKO’USA’s K1 Kickboxing Team USA vs Canada Feb 1 in Des Moines, plus more. Ginski will be fighting Cananda’s Veronica Gmaz. This event held by promotion Global Championship Circuit (GCC). This event will be sanctioned by WAKO USA under their K1 kickboxing rules. Ginski vs Gmaz will be a no headgear/shin guard bout.
IN THE BEGINNING
” I started training to ground myself, also to get into health and fitness. Then I literally fell in love with the sport.”
From the beginning she started training at Z’s in late 2008 where she has been since. After a year of training she took her first fight, around the same time meeting Rob Zbilski her coach, President of WAKO USA. Competing for a stint as an amateur boxer, before she moved into kickboxing. The first 4-5 years of competing she admits to not being consistent due to her age at the time, working, and not knowing what to fully commit to. Eventually, she started traveling, fighting, and winning titles.
“I said to myself…I can really do this.”
As a Amatuer she racked up 2 Chicago Golden Glove boxing titles, and is a 5x National WAKO Champion.
Now a full time fighter, she fits in 3 part time jobs that fit her schedule, to make it possible. Going on to say she wants to fight for a several more years, before considering different options. She most recently won the Pan American Championships in October of 2018.
When asked about her opponent Ginski replied:
“I don’t know much about her. She’s tall like me with a 15-1 record. With her being tall, I imagine she will be an outside fighter. You can you can study video of opponents, but when their in front of you, it can be a completely different story. You don’t know what kind of game plan they will bring. All we can do is stick to our game plan, and make adjustments along the way.”
She went on to share that she worked logistics for 8 years, before deciding to become full time Pro fighter.
STRENGTHS
Ginski is a flexible fighter with great ability to adjust to an opponent’s strategy, in competition, and she is a taller fighter. The ability to change fighting styles can be confusing, yet when mastered is key to longevity at the top.
“I’m a taller fighter so most opponents
expect me to fight on the outside. I’ve fought a lot of girls who were short and stocky, that want to bull doze you. So, I can do both (inside and outside). I can adjust fast. If we go into a fight with a game plan that doesn’t work, in between rounds, if he (Rob Zbilski) tells me to do something, I’m gonna do it. I can switch up several different fighting styles, depending on what my opponent brings in.”
Ginski Going undefeated in all of 2018, having a long term coach/cornermen, and being a K1 specialist and a current Pan American Champion, can and should be a strength heading into the new year.
CORNERMAN
Rob Zbilski will most likely be in her corner but I haven’t received a final determination as yet.
“If he has the ability to be in my corner without it being an issue then, he definitely will. We’re 2 peas in a pod. I mean we’ve known each other for 10 years. He knows me better than anyone.” It’s good to have communication along with guidance while fighting. Your comfortable, you have that loyalty and trust, that’s very important.”
FREE TIME
“I spend a lot of free time with family. I’m so dedicated to this sport, I stay ready all year around, training is my 9-5. I sacrifice a lot of free time, special occasions, holidays, When I get free time I spend it with family. My nephew just turned 1 so, I try to spend time with him as much as possible. I want to be the cool Auntie.”
THE STORM RETURNS
The Storm Kj Kordick will be making a trip back to Iowa, to commentate along with a great cast of others such as FITETV’s Sonny Onno, and well known broadcaster Scott Casbar.
