The Crockett Cup, held in honor of Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) founder Jim Crockett, Sr., first took place in 1986. The concept was a single elimination tag team tournament, with the winners earning a prize of $1 million. The event would take place again in 1987 and 1988. The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) would go on to revive the event in 2019, before holding the tournament again in 2022. On April 7, 2023, the NWA announced that the sixth Crockett Cup would take place on June 3 and 4 at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
