MMA Vet Jonathan Ivey is back at it again as he will be hosting Cage Fighting Championships (CFC) 7. This event is taking place on October 12th in Murfreesboro Tennessee. We will see a stacked card including 4 CFC title fights.

FightBook MMA had the opportunity to sit down and talk to undefeated MMA fighter Alexander Schenk. He’s one of the fighters fighting for the vacant CFC Lightweight title against Jaime Vasquez who’s the number 1 ranked lightweight contender. Schenk is currently the CFC featherweight champion and won the title in April by winning via judges decision over number 1 ranked contender Logan Nash. Alexander trains on a daily basis with professional MMA fighter Jacob Kilburn who is coming off a fight for Dana White on his contender Series. Alex is also teammates with CFC Bantamweight champion Isaac Morris. Check out the conversation we had with Alexander below regarding his thoughts on this fight.

Alexander your next fight is against number 1 ranked lightweight contender Jaime Vasquez for the vacant CFC lightweight title. Are you concerned with fighting at 155 against someone that is naturally a little bit bigger than you?

No I’m not worried at all I actually walk around at like 175 so I don’t think he is bigger than me, and I train with James Hairston who is competing for the 170 title all the time so I have no worries I’m gonna son this guy October 12th

Your last fight in the CFC was against highly respected featherweight Logan Nash. That was a very close fight with you nearly getting caught in a rear naked choke. You were able to survive and eventually pulled out the judges decision victory. Can you walk us through your fight with Nash? What did that fight teach you?

Yea that was probably my worst performance ever but he didn’t have any thing in that fight there was no point that I felt I was gonna have to tap. My chin was completely tucked and I’m not gonna tap because of a neck crank or anything. But that fight taught me to change your game plan when you take a short notice fight but if I would have took that fight on a full fight camp he would not have made it out the first round and no disrespect to Logan Nash he is a good fighter and a amazing person just he wasn’t built for a tough fight.

You train with CFC Bantamweight champion Isaac Morris. How often do you two directly compete during training and how competitive do your training sessions get?

Yea Isaac is my guy and we train together a lot and not too competitive we are a brotherhood and we just help each other where we can.

Jaime Vasquez is what is in front of you October 12th. Vasquez has the edge on you in experience but your younger and may have a athletic advantage. How do you see the fight between you two going on Oct 12th?

He doesn’t have the experience advantage at all I have competing in karate tournaments since I was like 8 and I have had over 100 karate matches over 40 Bjj matches and over 100 wrestling matches my experience goes deep and I definitely have the athleticism I am the most athletic person you will ever meet. You can ask Jacob Kilburn who the most athletic person he knows is and he will let you know it’s me. Anyway I and gonna do whatever I want to Jaime. I built the wall for Jaime he has to get over it or something to get this title. I feel very confident that I am gonna smoke this guy.

The president of the CFC Johnathan Ivey is very high on you. If you win the lightweight title in October. What’s next for you in the CFC organization. Are you going to defend the featherweight or lightweight title first or do you have plans to go to welterweight and get that title too?

Yes that’s because Ivey is a smart man he’s seen me in training and seen this amazing ability I have to fight. I would never go to welterweight my brother and training partner James Hairston is gonna smoke Alex Nuanez Jr for that 170 strap but super heavyweight is looking nice me and Chase might have to meet (Laughs).

Any last words or people that you would like to thank in closing Alexander?

Yea I would first like to think god for blessing me with this tremendous gift and then Lance and Jacob for preparing me for this fight and then my mom for taking me to all the tournaments she took me to when she didn’t have to I’m gonna make her life easy once I hit the UFC and then I gotta thank my sponsors Elijah and Simblic Photography and Kenny and train 36ixty and all y’all talking about this being fight of the night well I’m about to blow through this old man.
